In the first week of competition in the Business Strategy Game (BSG), Hedge Kicks - HK company’s management team achieved 36.2% Return on Average Equity (ROE), placing them 75th out of 4868 teams from 286 colleges/universities participating in the simulation world-wide.

BSG is one of the world’s most sophisticated business strategy simulation games. Teams are pitted against each other in fierce competition for global dominance in the face-paced market for athletic footwear. Companies have to formulate strategies to compete in four geographic regions, each having 3 separate market segments.

-“This is by far the most complex business simulation I have ever worked with, even more challenging than GLO-BUS, and therefore even more rewarding”, Prof. Thomas Karlsson says.

To be successful, teams must be able to accurately forecast sales for the following year, decide on a competitive pricing strategy, come up with a competitive footwear design, make various production related decisionsetc.Successful companies are also able to respond to continuously fluctuating currency exchange rates, and have enough foresight to plan the long-term most beneficial location of their production facilities. The complexity and realism of decisions that BSG simulation participants face is the leading reason for BSG’s wide adoption by colleges and universities all over the world.

Currently, Beijing Union University is the only university in China to step up to this global challenge by entering teams in BSG. This year, 24 students divided into 10 teams are participating in the simulation game. Seventeen of these students are from the BA International Business program at College of International Education (CIE), and seven are from various majors at BUU.

-“We are seeing an exploding demand for this kind of simulated business experience among our students. We have already more than doubled the enrollment from last semester. We are expecting to be able to invite even more students in the future” Dean Xie Zhi’an comments.
